WGC Fountain Turns Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Throughout October, the Coronation Fountain in the centre of Welwyn Garden City will run pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This marks the twenty-first year of a meaningful collaboration between Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and local pharmaceutical company Roche Products Ltd. The annual initiative sees the fountain dyed pink as a visible gesture of support for those affected by breast cancer and a reminder of the importance of early detection and continued research.
On Thursday 2 October, the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Lynn Chesterman OBE, joined Kate Rowbotham, General Manager, Roche Products Ltd, along with councillors and staff from both organisations, to formally mark the occasion.
The Mayor said:
"I’m honoured to be part of this event, which continues a long-standing tradition with Roche. The pink fountain is a quiet but powerful symbol - one that reflects our shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting those in our community and beyond who are living with or have been affected by breast cancer. I’d like to thank Roche for their continued support in helping us raise awareness."
Stevie Lockwood-Boon, Public Affairs Partner for Roche Products Ltd, added:
"For over two decades, we’ve stood alongside Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in recognising Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink fountain serves as a reminder to stay informed, to check regularly for signs and symptoms, and to support ongoing efforts in research and care. We are grateful to continue this partnership."
The fountain will remain pink until 31 October. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the Coronation Fountain during the month, take photos, and share them on social media to help raise awareness and show support for those affected by breast cancer.
