WHBC Ranked Number One Nationally For Website Accessibility

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is proud to announce that its website has been ranked 1st out of 349 UK council websites for accessibility in the latest SiteMorse Index, published this quarter.
The SiteMorse Index is the independent benchmark used to assess and rank public and private sector websites. It enables organisations to compare their digital capability with peers, evaluating key areas such as user experience, search engine optimisation (SEO), and functionality and performance.
This top-ranking highlights WHBC’s strong commitment to digital inclusion, ensuring that its online services are accessible, user-friendly, and designed for everyone - including residents with visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor impairments. Whether paying council tax, reporting an issue, or accessing support, it’s essential that every resident can navigate the website with ease.
Councillor Kieran Thorpe, Executive Member for Governance, said:
“I am delighted that our website has been recognised for its accessibility. Making our website accessible for everyone ensures that all of our residents can use our online services confidently and independently. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Website team, and I’d like to thank them for going above and beyond to deliver a truly inclusive digital experience for users. As a Council, we are committed to continuing to improve and develop all of our digital services.”
The SiteMorse Index is published quarterly and provides a transparent view of digital performance across the sector.
