For the third consecutive year, WHBC will proudly host Purple Tuesday on 4 November 2025, the global initiative that strives to improve the customer experience of disabled people.

A special day of entertainment, informative discussions, and opportunities to connect with local organisations will take place in the Howard Centre , Welwyn Garden City, from 10.30am until 2.30pm. The event will feature stalls from local organisations including WHBC’s Private Sector Housing team, Step2Skills, AccessAble, Oaklands College, Communities 1st, Inclusion Project
 and Hertfordshire Police.

The aim of the day is to celebrate inclusive shopping, raise awareness, and showcase initiatives that make retail spaces welcoming for everyone. This year’s focus will be on helping businesses make their websites more accessible for people with disabilities, with practical tips and guidance available throughout the event.

You can also enjoy a sensational performance from the Purple All Stars – a group of people with learning disabilities who use film, dance, and song to spread their messages of equality and inclusion – at 11.30am, followed by an electrifying performance from Britain’s Got Talent’s Electric Umbrella at 1pm, who use the power of music to challenge perceptions, break down barriers, and redefine societal norms.

Every November participating organisations make a public commitment to improve accessibility and practices to help ensure that disabled customers and their families have a more positive experience in shops, businesses and public spaces.

Cllr Jane Quinton, Executive Member, Leisure and Community, said:

“Purple Tuesday is an important reminder that accessibility isn’t just about meeting standards - it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and included.

I’m proud that Welwyn Hatfield continues to champion this initiative, bringing together local organisations and residents to share ideas, raise awareness, and celebrate inclusion.

By working together, we can make a real difference - helping businesses, community groups, and individuals understand the small but powerful changes that can make every day experiences more accessible for everyone.”
