New photographic exhibition to open at Mill Green Museum

Mill Green Watermill and Museum has reopened for 2026 following a short winter break, with a new museum exhibition launching alongside the popular mill tours and a Handmade Journal Workshop.

Welcoming visitors back on Fridays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm, the venue is opening the new photographic exhibition, entitled ‘Zoom In’, on 27 March. The exhibition will feature a cross-section of images from Mill Green Museum’s photographic collection depicting different areas of the borough, with sections for Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, and the surrounding villages. Tickets for the exhibition are included in General Admission tickets which you can pre-book online or purchase on the day.

On Sunday 12 April, the Handmade Journal Workshop with local artist Hazel Russell will be taking place in the Pumphouse next to the museum. This relaxed, hands-on session will guide participants through basic bookbinding and creative techniques to craft a personalised journal using decorative papers, vintage materials and recycled ephemera. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

The regular mill tours, a highlight of any visit to the historic mill and museum where visitors can explore the working 18th century watermill, will continue to be brought to life through our expert guides. Visitors will have the chance to watch the mill in action and learn about traditional milling techniques from the museum’s resident Miller. Afterwards, guests can relax in The Miller’s Kitchen and enjoy a delicious cream tea, complete with freshly baked scones made using flour milled on site.

Councillor Jane Quinton, Executive Member, Community and Leisure, said:

“Mill Green Museum is one of our borough’s most treasured heritage sites, and I am delighted to see it reopen for another year. I'm sure everyone will be fascinated by the local photographs of their area in new photographic exhibition. The mix of hands-on family activities, expert-led tours and opportunities to experience a working mill also make it a truly unique destination. I know that the staff at Mill Green look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike back for exciting upcoming events and exhibitions.”
