Donation of household packs gives residents best start in temporary accommodation

The packs, which include household items such as bedding, kitchen utensils, cleaning equipment and toiletries, will help residents who have experienced homelessness settle into their new accommodation. They were donated as part of Equans' social value programme.

Items provided can be taken with the residents when they leave temporary accommodation, enabling them to purchase other essential goods needed for when they move to their permanent homes.

Councillor Gemma Moore, Executive Member for Housing, said:

“We’re really grateful to Equans for donating these home-starter packs. By providing some household essentials, we’re able to help residents settle in and feel more at home in their new accommodation.

“The packs can have such a positive impact on those who are moving into settled accommodation after experiencing homelessness and are one of the ways the council supports them to start rebuilding their lives.”

Cole Turner, Regional Director, Places and Communities South at Equans, said:

“Supporting residents as they move into temporary accommodation is about more than providing a roof over their heads - it’s about helping them rebuild confidence and stability.

“By donating these home‑starter packs, we hope to make those first days a little easier and ensure people have the essentials they need to feel safe, comfortable and ready to move forward.
