Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council wins ‘Regional Council of the Year’ at Energy Efficiency Awards
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has won ‘Regional Council of the Year’ at the prestigious East of England Regional Energy Efficiency Awards 2026.
The award, which was was announced at an awards ceremony last week (21 May), is in recognition of the ongoing work that the Council’s Investment and Programme Delivery team is undertaking, with its partner Morgan Sindall Property Services, to decarbonise its housing stock through energy efficiency improvements that are providing warmer, more comfortable homes, while reducing fuel bills for residents.
In its nomination, the Council demonstrated how it is coordinating multiple works across the borough while minimising disruption for residents, and placing a strong focus on resident engagement. WHBC also had to demonstrated how, through its social value initiatives, it is engaging with hard-to-reach communities and working with local schools and colleges.
WHBC also won in the ‘Regional Large Scale Project of the Year’ category at last week’s awards ceremony, for the retrofit work it is undertaking across its housing stock.

So I am delighted that we have won these awards for the ongoing work that we are doing to retrofit our housing stock, as well as the support that we are providing to local communities through our social value projects. I have visited a number of properties across Welwyn Hatfield that have been retrofitted and seen for myself the difference these works make to resident’s lives.
