Vote for Campus West in BIFA'S Cinema of The Year Award
Campus West, WGC’s independent three-screen cinema managed by WHBC, has been entered into the BIFA Cinema of the Year Award, and residents can now help it secure a place on the shortlist!
Public voting is now open until 21 September, giving Campus West customers and local cinemagoers the chance to show their support. The BIFA Cinema of the Year Award, now in its second year, celebrates cinemas across the UK and the role they play in their local communities.
Campus West offers much more than the latest film releases, with a varied programme designed for different audiences across the community. Regular screenings include Monday Night Classics, Parent & Baby sessions, SEND screenings and Films for a Fiver, while its free Zebra Discount membership helps make trips to the cinema more affordable.
The venue also hosts special events and experiences throughout the year, including its recent Downton Abbey Gala Night, where guests enjoyed drinks and canapés before making a red-carpet arrival.
Councillor Max Holloway, Executive Member for Community and Leisure said:
Like thousands of residents across Welwyn Hatfield, I love Campus West - it's a fantastic example of what an independent cinema can offer. It provides an affordable way for people to enjoy the big-screen, and offers something for everyone, from classic films and accessible screenings to the latest blockbusters on release day.
We’re incredibly proud of the team behind Campus West and hope local film-fans will show their support by voting and helping it secure a place on the BIFA Cinema of the Year shortlist - right where it belongs!
Following the public vote, the longlist will be announced on 13 October, with five nominees revealed on 3 November. A panel of cinema professionals will then select the overall winner, which will be announced at the BIFA Awards ceremony at London’s Roundhouse on Sunday 6 December
BIFA directors Amy Gustin and Deena Wallace said:
The response to our first Cinema of the Year award was incredible, and we are so excited to bring it back for a second year. Last year, amazing cinemas from all over the UK entered to show just how much they mean to their local areas, and we hope to see that same brilliant support this year. This award is our way of recognising the value of independent cinemas to people and the industry, whilst celebrating the hardworking teams behind the screens and the loyal audiences who support them.
