Major improvements coming to Moors Walk Car Park
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is investing in significant improvements to Moors Walk Car Park in Welwyn Garden City, with works due to begin on Tuesday 1 September.
The improvements will see the car park fully resurfaced, replacing the existing surface which has deteriorated over time.
The plans follow two community consultation sessions held in March, where residents were invited to share their views on the proposed improvements. Feedback from the sessions has helped inform the final plans for the car park.
The works will include:
- full resurfacing of the car park
- drainage repairs
- an additional disabled parking bay outside the doctors' surgery
- a new pedestrian path through the central section of the car park
- improved landscaping
- improvements to the recycling area, including new screening
The works will be carried out in two phases to reduce disruption to shops and businesses. Some parking will remain available while the phased works take place, although the number and location of available spaces will change as work progresses. Visitors are asked to follow on-site signage and directions when using the car park.
The main works are provisionally expected to be completed by the end of October, subject to any unforeseen circumstances.

We know the condition of the car park has been a concern for residents and local businesses, so it’s great to see work starting to create a safer, more accessible and better-quality car park for everyone who uses it.
“The wider improvements will also help create a better experience for drivers using the car park, will support local businesses and will make the area more attractive and welcoming for everyone visiting Moors Walk. I’d also like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views with us during our consultation earlier this year. We appreciate there will be some disruption while the works take place and thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience while these important improvements are carried out.”
Contractor Ringway will manage the works on site, with barriers and signage in place to help people navigate the car park safely. Site supervisors will also be present during working hours.
