Welwyn Hatfield celebrates Anglia in Bloom success

Welwyn Hatfield once again triumphed at the prestigious Anglia in Bloom awards, held on 24 September, earning recognition for its floral displays, green spaces and community projects.

Hatfield was named Best Small City and received a Silver Gilt award in the same category. Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium also celebrated success, earning Silver in the Best Crematorium category.

In Welwyn Garden City, Howardsgate and Parkway received Gold in the Best Park category, rounding off a fantastic set of results for the borough.

The borough showcased its floral beauty for the Anglia in Bloom judges when they toured Hatfield in July, visiting key locations including Hatfield House; Hatfield Town Centre, with its award-winning, newly developed Market Place; the new planting scheme in Salisbury Square, Old Hatfield; and Minster Wood.

The entries were judged on criteria such as plant choice, maintenance, environmental responsibility and community participation.

Alongside this regional success, local charity Potential Kids has earned national recognition, winning the RHS Gardening with Young People Award after being put forward by Anglia in Bloom judges. Their ‘Potential to Grow’ garden at The Galleria in Hatfield helps children develop skills and friendships through gardening, while supporting their families and carers.

This fantastic achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the people who go into making our public places, green spaces and community projects so vibrant, attractive and welcoming.
