Throughout October, the Coronation Fountain in the centre of Welwyn Garden City is dyed pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year marks the twenty-second year of a meaningful collaboration between Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and local pharmaceutical company Roche Products Ltd.  The annual initiative sees the Coronation Fountain symbolically dyed pink as a visible gesture of support for those affected by breast cancer and a reminder of the importance of early detection and continued research.

On Monday 5 October, the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Michal Siewniak, joined Kate Rowbotham, General Manager, Roche Products Ltd, along with councillors and staff from both organisations, to formally mark the occasion.

Councillor Siewniak said:

"I am delighted that we are continuing with our long-standing collaboration with Roche and once again turning the Coronation Fountain in Welwyn Garden City pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This action reflects our shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting those in our community and beyond who are or have been affected by breast cancer. Thank you to our colleagues at Roche for their continued support in helping us raise awareness of breast cancer."

Stevie Lockwood-Boon, Public Affairs Partner for Roche Products Ltd, added:

"For over two decades, we’ve stood alongside Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in recognising Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink fountain serves as a reminder to stay informed, to check regularly for signs and symptoms, and to support ongoing efforts in research and care. We are grateful to continue with this partnership with the Council."

The Coronation Fountain will remain pink until 31 October. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the fountain, take photos, and share them on social media to help raise awareness and show support for those affected by breast cancer.
