Your Tree Our Future

People hands planting a tree

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) is giving away free trees to residents, businesses, and community groups for the second year running as part of its ‘Your Tree Our Future’ scheme.

Last year over 46,000 trees were given away to residents across Hertfordshire, with individual tree and hedge packs given away to over 500 residents in Welwyn Hatfield.

Working again in partnership with HCC, the council is giving residents in Welwyn Hatfield the opportunity to claim 10,000 free trees this year and there is still time to claim one.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Zukowskyj said:

“We are already lucky to live in a borough with an abundance of trees and woodlands; however, we know that trees play a huge role in our fight against climate change as well as protecting biodiversity. I am really pleased that residents in Welwyn Hatfield and across Hertfordshire will once again be able to benefit from this important scheme and I would encourage them to apply for their trees before they are all gone.”

Cllr Eric Buckmaster, Executive Member for Environment at Hertfordshire County Council said: “Last year we saw exceptional demand from residents to play their part in creating a more sustainable county and we’re committed to ensuring that this well received offer continues providing the opportunity for all to take positive climate action.”

Residents will be able to select from eight tree species which are suited to the local geography and climate and will be available to pick them up from a dedicated collection point in early December 2023.

Claim a free tree. Trees are limited to 5 per applicant and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
