Land at Bradmore Way, Brookmans Park: Planning Inspectorate Upholds Council’s Decision
The refusal of a proposed development at Bradmore Way, Brookmans Park has been upheld by the Planning Inspectorate over concerns about the impact of the proposal on the Green Belt.
A planning application to introduce built development onto the site in the form of up to 125 dwellings, a care home, scout hut with associated access roads, gardens, open spaces, and driveways was refused planning permission by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s Planning Committee in July last year in line with the recommendation of officers.
Following a 7-day public inquiry earlier this year, and after several months of consideration by the Inspector, the appeal was dismissed this month.
The main reasons cited included the inappropriate development of Green Belt land which would significantly impact the character and appearance of the area, and which were not outweighed by other factors.
Cllr Jane Quinton, Executive Member, Planning, said:
I am pleased to see that the Planning Inspector has agreed with the Council’s approach in ensuring that this scheme is not granted planning permission. In referencing several factors in their decision, including that the Council’s emerging Local Plan has reached Main Modifications stage, the Inspector has reinforced that Councils are best placed to determine where much-needed housing should be delivered in their areas.
