Welwyn Roman Baths

Roman Baths in Welwyn

Discovered in 1960 by local archaeologist Tony Rook, the Roman Baths beneath the A1(M) motorway are a significant part of the Dicket Mead Roman villa complex. Managed by the Welwyn Archaeological Society, excavations revealed a remarkable bath complex within a larger villa, dating back to the early third century. This historic site, which ceased operation in the mid-fourth century, is now a scheduled ancient monument. Visitors are encouraged to explore this fascinating glimpse into our ancient past.
