What is the funding for:

  • Groups can apply for up to £500 to help with projects that demonstrate climate action within the borough.
  • Any project is possible as long as you demonstrate how it supports the aims of the Transition to Net Zero Strategy

Who can apply:

  • Local voluntary and community organisations
  • Schools
  • Parish Councils
  • Not for profit organisation
  • Youth groups 
  • Faith groups
  • Must be based in Welwyn Hatfield.

Why it matters:

Eligibility criteria:

  • The project must be based in Welwyn Hatfield Borough
  • Organisation must provide appropriate insurance for all events and works to be carried out whilst implementing the project
  • Organisation must be able to provide detailed costs relating to delivering the project
  • Project must align with the Council’s corporate priority on “Action on Climate Change”
  • Project must align with at least one theme in the Council’s Transition to Net Zero Strategy

What we fund:

  • Community gardens and biodiversity projects
  • Energy-saving initiatives
  • Climate education and awareness campaigns
  • Sustainable transport and waste reduction schemes

What will not be considered:

  • Applications from commercial/profit making organisations
  • Projects that are deemed to be in place of statutory bodies
  • Projects promoting political or religious beliefs
  • Projects that fund individuals
  • Projects that have already taken place
  • Projects that do not benefit or are not based in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield
  • Applications that fund the salary of someone
  • Projects that the Council have funded in the past two years.
  • Projects that directly conflict with the council’s other corporate priorities
