WHBC have been ranked joint second in Hertfordshire for its progress on tackling climate change, rising from 8th place last year in the latest Climate Action Scorecards.

Climate Action Scorecards, published by Climate Emergency UK in partnership with mySociety, score councils across the UK on how they are tackling climate change in seven key areas to reach net zero. In the last set, WHBC scored highly in areas like community engagement and building improvements.

In the Collaboration and Engagement category, the council’s score rose by 35%, helped by the launch of the WHBC Climate Hub, our online space full of climate news, events, resources and advice for residents and local businesses.

WHBC also improved in the Buildings and Heating section, scoring 55%, including full marks for recent retrofit upgrades to make council buildings more energy efficient.

“This recognition reflects the meaningful steps we’re taking towards our goal of becoming a net zero council by 2030. I’d like to thank all our officers for their continued dedication and hard work.” – Cllr Max Holloway, Leader of the Council

Looking ahead, the council plans to keep expanding the Climate Hub, support more local green projects, and continue working towards our council and borough Net Zero goals!
