Welwyn Hatfield is home to many beautiful woodlands, open spaces, and nature reserves. These cherished green spaces are cared for and protected thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers.
Across the borough, volunteers devote countless hours of unpaid service managing these natural areas. Not only do they carry out essential conservation work, but many fundraise or secure grants to support their efforts and continue to inspire others to appreciate and protect the areas.
Annually, we hold a special evening event to thank our volunteers and celebrate their hard work. This took place last Thursday, 26th June. We heard from the deputy mayor, as well as inspiring updates from different volunteer groups about the work they’ve been doing across the borough, including:
- Friends of Northaw Great Woods
- The Commons Local Nature Reserve
- Friends of Mardley Heath
- Friends of Minster Woods
These are just a few of the groups making a real difference in our community. We are incredibly grateful to all our volunteers for the time, energy, and passion they bring to preserving Welwyn Hatfield’s natural spaces.
