Competition terms and conditions

Welwyn Hatfield Biodiversity Photography Competition

1. The Promoter

The promoter is: Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Council Offices, Campus East, Welwyn Garden City AL8 6AE.

2. The competition

2.1    The competition is a biodiversity photography compeition open to residents living in Welwyn Hatfiled Borough.

3. How to enter

3.1    The competition will run from 04.03.2024 and 20.05.2024, so that they can be printed and ready for display at various locations in WGC and Hatfield during the Great Big Green Week (8th – 16th June), with winners and runners up announced during this week.
3.2    Entering the competition
3.3     Digitally capture something naturally beautiful that show cases Welwyn Hatfield’s biodiversity (Biodiversity refers to the variety of ALL living species on Earth, including plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi etc).
3.4     Send the image to climatechange@welhat.gov.uk. Include a title and a description about what it is and where it was taken (must be within the borough). Provide your name and age, so we can allocate you into the correct age category.

4. Eligibility

4.1    The competition is open to anyone in the Welwyn Hatfield borough.
4.2     All photo's must be original work, taken by entrants.
4.3     No third party may own or control any materials the photo contains, and the photo must not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of privacy of any entity or person.
4.4     The photo must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, including but not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame.
4.5    In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.
4.6   The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

5. The Prize's 

5.1    There will be a winner and runner up prize for every age category, with prizes donated from local businesses.
5.2    The prize's are not negotiable.  
5.3    The prize's are non-transferrable and is not redeemable for cash.

6. Winners

6.1    One winning entry will be selected on  by our Climate Change officer. 
6.2    The winner will be announced during the Great Big Green Week (8th – 16th June) on WHBC's social media.

7. Claiming the prize

7.1    If you are the winner of the prize, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will contact you via email. If no response is received after 5 days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.

8. Consent

9.1    By participating in this competition, you agree to be featured in any/all Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and the BID content produced for social media and any future Digital/traditional marketing material. 

9. Data protection and publicity

10.1    All email addresses will be held securely on a server in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.  To find out more about how we use your data, please see our Privacy Notice.
10.2    Personal data is never sold or shared with other charities or companies.

10. General

11.1    If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
11.2    The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
11.3    These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
